Linköping is strategically situated next to highway E4 and the main railway between Malmö and Stockholm. The position makes it an easy destination to reach. Linköping also got its own Linköping city airport with international traffic to Copenhagen with SAS (1 hour) and Amsterdam with KLM (2 hours).
There is no bus serving Linköping city airport, while a taxi to downtown costs about SEK 150-200, EUR 20.
Nearby there is Norrköping airport (50 km from Linköping), with international flights from Helsinki with Flybe (1 hour). There are buses from Norrköping airport to Norrköping railway station, and one can then continue to Linköping by a local
train.
NB You can't buy a bus ticket at Norrköping airport unless you have a Swedish credit card, but you can buy a ticket using an app on your smartphone together with a credit card. If you plan to take the train Norrköping-Linköping make sure that you get a ticket valid all the way to Linköping.
An alternative is to take a taxi to Norrköping railway station (costs about SEK 150-200, EUR 20), and then continue by train.
A little further away is Stockholm Skavsta Airport (mainly low cost airlines), located outside Nyköping (100 km from Linköping, 90 minutes by airport bus).
One can also fly to Stockholm Arlanda Airport (all airlines) which is located north of Stockholm, 250 km from Linköping. There are a few direct trains Arlanda-Linköping each day.
Linköping can be reached by train or car from Stockholm in less than two and a half hours and from Copenhagen in three or five hours depending on the train. By express bus or nettbuss it takes slightly longer.
The railway and bus station in Linköping is situated a ten-minute walk from the city center.
