Dynamical systems whose initial responses are in the wrong direction
Some dynamical systems respond to an outside influence in a strange
fashion. Aircraft, for instance, initially move downwards in response to a pilot
command for increased altitude. Such behavior can be explained in terms
of the eigenvalues of the linearized system dynamics. It turns out
that not only the ordinary system dynamics, but also the dynamics on the so
called zero manifold are involved.
